Following feedback to the Co-ordinating Group after the previous meeting, it was decided to change the format of this meeting, with an improved  PA system, a better seating arrangement and an automated voting system,  As well as the topics for discussion, the automated voting system was interesting in itself and the cream cakes were delicious!

The voting system works as follows: each person present is given a wireless response pad and, in order to vote 'YES', 'NO', or for a third option if there is one, presses the appropriate button on the pad.  After the voting period, say 30 seconds, the results are transmitted to a laptop and then displayed on a large screen in the form of bar charts showing percentage of votes cast.

Monday, 19th January 2009

(Report taken from Grove Park Community Group Newsletter - Winter 2009)

The Grove Park Local Assembly met at the TA Centre in Baring Road on the 19th January 2009.  It was by far the biggest turnout of all three assembly meetings with over 130 people attending on a cold January evening.

The meeting was led by Councillor David Britton, and was tasked with electing two members for the co-ordinating group, to decide how to spend the Locality Fund money, and discuss proposals for spending the Mayor's Fund.

Hilary Moore, Suzannah Clarke and Chris Borg were elected to the co-ordinating group.  The latter two will share one position.

Four projects were selected by ballot to receive funding from the £10,000 Locality Fund, namely

1. Provision of a minibus for the homebound

2. The creation of a separate under-5s play area in Chinbrook Meadows

3. Flower planters, hanging baskets and trees in Grove Park and the

shopping area near Baring Road School.

4. The re-printing of the History of Grove Park.

The meeting had been organised into table discussion groups to discuss ideas for projects to receive funding from the Mayor's Fund.  This fund is a total of £50,000, to be spent over two years.  The ideas suggested by the Assembly will be considered by the co-ordinating group and the best three will be fully costed and assessed.  Those three projects will be presented at an Assembly Meeting in the summer.
